In most Churches attendance is still down 35% After Covid

As we travel across the Southeastern US I have talked to several pastors who have told me their church's attendance is still down at least 35% or more in some cases. There are some churches that are not seeing this happen to them. Their church is back to full numbers and some are even growing!

According to the Barna Group, only 38% of the people in the US are active churchgoers. 38%!!! And this number has been slowly declining over the last few decades. Church attendance was already declining and Covid just made it worse.

An interesting side note here. I asked several pastors if the people who didn't come back impacted their giving. Many said no because the people who haven't come back didn't support the church that much to start off with. They were basically pew warmers.

It has been my experience over the last 50 years that if you are truly born again no one has to ask you to go to church! The Holy Spirit inside you will remind you that you need the help and support that a family of like-minded believers can give!

One last parting thought. Can the people who have stayed home and not returned to the church be the falling away Paul talked about in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 KJV

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Just a thought.
